When faced with an aggressive and rare cancer diagnosis, Jeannie Piekos, writer, poet and art activist, found a way to navigate and share her cancer journey through essays and poetry. In Buoyancy, she travels from the heart-breaking, life-threatening diagnosis through the treatment protocol with its side-effects and fallout, and onward into a transformed, unrecognizable self that yearns to find self-acceptance and possibly, recovery. Buoyancy provides a lens into a private space that allows the reader to be witness to the loneliness, bittersweet poignancy  and transformative power of disease.

Faith
I want so much to walk with you into my vision where there is joy at just the sight of you and only humor for our follies
Oh come let us be faithful

I want to walk with you as we set aside our suffering and gaze unflinchingly into the face of God which is housed here inside one another.
Let us be joyful and triumphant.

I want to walk with you through this season of renewal, going darkly, bravely into our own depths to find our own answers.
          Sing in exultation.

I want to walk with you into a year never before experienced and fully live our lives one year closer to perfection.
For we are born of Angels.

Praise for Buoyancy

Jeannie begets love and that love grows from her and beyond her and then grows some more. Her family, friends, community, art, poems, gardens, beloved dogs, fun-loving smart-ass sense of humor, candor, vulnerability and indomitableness are revealed in these pages. --Amy Ballestad, Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre

So much love is in this memoir! Only a fine poet whose touch is light as a feather can levitate her readers with words the way Jeannie Piekos does with her cancer memoir, Buoyancy. This book and its author are beautiful and brave and strong and will make readers feel beautiful and brave and strong.
